Reading Room shortlisted for Mobile Innovation
16/01/2012 - Manchester
Reading Room’s expertise in mobile innovation has been recognised with a shortlisting for a global charity competition to create a mobile application to help teenage cancer patients.
The competition, created by eyeforpharma, was launched internationally to encourage all healthcare stakeholders to consider the patient's point of view and create something valuable as a result. One of ten shortlisted entrants chosen from more than 50 entries, Reading Room’s concept entitled ‘Invisible Friend’ aims to meet a cancer-sufferer's emotional needs by providing a private platform for users to seek emotional support, vent, or ask questions to an 'invisible friend' (volunteer cancer survivors or trained counsellors).
As a full service digital consultancy, Reading Room offers large and small clients effective cross-platform digital communications, with mobile integration at the heart of the user experience.
Voting for the Mobile Health Competition is now open to the public to choose their favourite idea from the top 10. You can see and vote for our entry here. Public voting ends 23rd Jan 2012.
The top three most voted will enter the final round where a panel of teen and young adult cancer survivors will select the winning app.
Polly Willson, Managing Director of Reading Room Studio says: “Many health-related mobile apps already focus on the practical aspects of patient care. The team wanted to create something a bit more human: they’ve designed an app to support patients emotionally and provide them with help and advice about the things that are difficult to ask directly of family, friends or doctors. All of the entries are incredibly strong so we’re very proud to have been shortlisted.”
The winning idea will see US$5000 donated to the cancer charity of their choice and have the chance to get their idea turned into a reality. We’d love to be able to donate the winnings to a great cause, and of course see our idea help sufferers through a difficult time. We thank you for your support.
